MEDIA ADVISORY:
Senator Hewitt Launches Statewide Petition
Urging Governor to Open Louisiana on a Parish by Parish Basis
Baton Rouge, LA — Today, Louisiana State Senator Sharon Hewitt launched an online petition to give Louisiana citizens a voice in response to the Governor’s “stay at home” order and the corresponding economic shutdown over COVID-19.
WHAT: A grassroots online petition drive to restore the voice of Louisiana voters and empower local officials in the state’s decision-making process. Even though President Trump’s plan provides for the regional reopening of states, Governor Edwards has stated he will not consider the option.
WHEN: Starting Thursday, April 23
WHERE: www.OpenLaNow.com
WHY: Over 300,000 Louisianans have lost their jobs, and COVID-19 has uniquely impacted each parish. Local businesses are growing frustrated by the Governor’s statewide “stay at home” order and refusal to consider a parish by parish approach to a meaningful opening of our economy.
WHO: Senator Sharon Hewitt is the chairwoman of the Senate Republican Caucus and the Senate and Governmental Affairs Committee. Senator Hewitt represents the families of Senate District 1, covering eastern St. Tammany Parish and parts of Orleans, St. Bernard, and Plaquemines parishes.
