Senator Sharon Hewitt Awarded National Legislator of the Year by the American Legislative Exchange Council

Louisiana State Senator Sharon Hewitt was awarded National Legislator of the Year by the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) at the 2018 States & Nation Policy Summit in Washington, DC.

“I’m very humbled and honored to be selected as Legislator of the Year by ALEC,” said Senator Hewitt. “ALEC has been a tremendous resource for me. Their nationally-recognized experts have provided me with data and best practices that have been useful in formulating policies in my state. “

Senator Hewitt, a former oil and gas industry executive, was elected to the Louisiana Senate in 2015.  She serves as vice-chair of the Senate Transportation Committee, and is a member of the Joint Budget Committee, and the Senate Finance Committee which oversees the state budgeting process.

Since beginning her first term in 2016, the Senator has focused on fiscal reforms to shrink the size of government, to limit spending, to fund programs with measurable results, and to streamline higher education and healthcare. In addition, Senator Hewitt created the LaSTEM Advisory Council which will create high paying jobs to meet the future workforce demands in science, technology, engineering, and math.
